The award for the best entrepreneurial and innovative idea of high school students in the Adriatic-Ionian region was won by our protégés Eva Kuruzović and Lidija Wolf. It was an honour for us to mentor these two special young ladies together with the Innovation Center Banja Luka.

The international competition for innovation and entrepreneurship, POPRI International, was held this year on May 6-7, 2025 on the Greek island of Crete, and our team as the high school representatives won first place! The students presented their idea under the name “ReGlass” (Idea Description: Transforming the approach to glass recycling with a sustainable and innovative solution). The POPRI competition is held annually as a side event of the EUSAIR Forum and bring together young people from 10 EUSAIR countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, San Marino, Serbia and Slovenia).

The business innovation community in the Balkans has new stars!

In recent years, chemistry has been recognized as the basis of a large number of natural and technical sciences and a very important science in the DeepTech trend, which is why a growing number of faculties value chemistry knowledge on the entrance exam. Chemistry is especially important for achieving a high number of points on the entrance exams at medical and technological faculties, as well as in chemistry and biology study programs, in our country, the region or the European Union.

The NanoPoli Center is opening a call for preparatory classes within smaller, dynamic groups, which has proven to be a better way of learning and acquiring knowledge. As lecturers, we have gathered excellent chemists from Gen-Z. The classes will be divided into groups depending on the target faculty, will follow the defined literature, but will be extremely interactive.

The lecturers are young enough to be generation-vise close to the students preparing for the entrance exam, but they are chemists who graduated with a high average, won awards and participated in international projects in innovative chemistry.

After the success of our winter art classroom and the interest shown by our young attendees in the concept where science “meets” art, we are pleased to announce a new beginning with workshops that will take place during the spring months.

Once again, through a memorandum of cooperation with the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Banja Luka, the NanoPoli Center is organizing the school “Art through the Prism of Science.” Lecturer is our colleague Tatjana Ratković Bosnić, a master of arts in the field of graphics. As before, the uniqueness of our art classroom lies in the fact that participants will learn about scientific phenomena through creative visual work and cooperation with physicists and chemists, and create unique artworks.

The number of participants is limited to 10 per group, with the formation of appropriate age groups (ranging from 6-18 years).

Membership fee for 8 classes (4×2) on Saturdays is 70BAM per month.

Please send applications to: info@npcentar.org

Work schedule: 01.03.-30.06. 2025 in the modern classroom of the Center for Material Innovation (ground floor of PMF). Parking is provided for parents.

BANSKI DVOR: PALACE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

BANSKI DVOR: PALACE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Governor’s Palace in Banja Luka once again hosted those who are more important than any world aristocracy, as the Chamber of Commerce of the Republika Srpska awarded the most successful entrepreneurs in 2024.

Our small company was honoured to share that moment with people who, with their efforts and ideas, are driving the development of our society. The Palace was built during the heyday of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia in the 1930s.

The builders from the village of Vrtoče near Bosanski Petrovac, who built it, the forerunners of today’s entrepreneurs, could not have dreamed that even awards for digitalization in agriculture would be awarded here.

Congratulations to all the winners!

AQUA DAY: THE POWER OF WATER

AQUA DAY: THE POWER OF WATER

Today is United Nations World Water Day 2025. Every day, though, water becomes an increasingly important resource, let’s not forget that.

Our favorite fact about water is that frozen water has a lower density than liquid water, which is why it floats and prevents entire oceans, lakes and rivers from freezing, which would destroy life in their depths.

Our teacher Tatjana and her team of young artists learned about acidic rain and water conservation today and appropriately chose the watercolor technique for their creative work. We will patiently wait for the results until next week, because the works have gone to dry…

We are thankful to our partners from LIR Evolution for an invitation to share and learn at an energetic seminar of their project Danube Indeet. Incredible teams from our country, but also from Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Montenegro, and Romania, will work on finding out best solutions for expansion of electricity to the most rural regions.

Local infrastructure frameworks in six selected regions and the data will be fed into a computation model based on mathematical optimisation to obtain ideal green infrastructure setup in terms of operation and economics. The whole point is that not all the solutions fit everywhere: wind turbine needs wind, solar panel needs Sun… so breathe in deeply before you jump into new investment in energy .

NanoPoli Centre joined THE PLEDGE: 1 million deep tech talents

NanoPoli Centre is a proud partner in European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) Deep Tech Talent Initiative, a pioneering programme that is skilling one million people within European deep tech fields by 2025. NanoPoli Centre has signed a pledge to contribute to the EIT Deep Tech Talent Initiative by expanding the education for young students on deeptech in material sciences.

Deep tech innovations – cutting-edge technological solutions combining fields of science and engineering in the physical, biological, and digital spheres – are indispensable in addressing the most pressing global challenges. However, Europe lacks the talent and skilled labour force necessary to properly leverage the new technologies to enable its green and digital transition. The EIT aims to address this gap, in line with the European Commission’s New European Innovation Agenda, by developing a strong deep tech talent pool across Europe.

To address the mission of training one million individuals in deep tech before the end of 2025, the EIT launched the ‘Pledge for Deep Tech Talents’, which is a vehicle for partners and sponsors to contribute to the development and delivery of the initiative’s courses and training. The Pledge gathers public and private organizations, industry representatives and champions, academic partners, education providers, and Member States in support of the aim of the initiative.

NanoPoli Centre, as an Education and Training Provider will contribute to achieving the goal of training one million talents in deep tech fields by promoting potential of primary and secondary raw materials available in Bosnia and Herzegovina for sustainable production of nanomaterials for European market.

WE NEED A RECONCILIATION: HEAVY INDUSTRY AND CLIMATE CONCERN

WE NEED A RECONCILIATION: HEAVY INDUSTRY AND CLIMATE CONCERN

  • By NanoPoli centar
  • 21/02/202521/02/2025
  • News

In recent decades, concern about the impact of humans, primarily industrial activities, on negative climate change has become an everyday topic and has found its place in most scientific fields. The voice of the young population is also becoming important, especially through actions that sometimes even involve boycotting school classes as a form of awarness campaigns.

However, an important topic that, in our opinion, will be increasingly relevant in the coming years and decades is the “reconciliation” between the necessity of the existence of heavy industry and our desire as inhabitants of the planet to protect it from fatal climate change and pollution in general. This year, the NanoPoly Center will draw attention through a series of important events to the fact that this reconciliation is possible.

Young people need to know that their favorite jacket or T-shirt is made from synthetic microfibers that come from polymers, and polymers from oil. And yet the favorite phone, tablet, or computer in front of them contains minerals from over 60 different mines. To maintain all the comfort that this means, young people need to know more and become carriers of advanced environmental protection technologies, many of them deep techs.

DAY OF GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SCIENCE: CELEBRATING THE LAST CENTURY

DAY OF GIRLS AND WOMEN IN SCIENCE: CELEBRATING THE LAST CENTURY

All fellow female scientists, happy International day of girls and women in science. NanoPoli , as the mostly female team, is taking a moment to think about this important recognition by the United Nations.

Last century was a game changer for female talents in science. In most of the world, girls and women in science are having equal chances and are even dominating some areas. What remains ahead of us is the struggle for more female leadership positions in science access to the proper maternity leave and childcare.🌍

We are proud to say that Bosnia and Herzegovina offers this to female scientists. Our country, regardless of the historical hardships it faced in the last century, has 100% paid maternity leave for 12 months and an incredible tradition of the national kindergartens which offer safety for the children while mom-scientists are changing the world for 8 hours a day. 🌟🌟🌟

W4WB Network of Research Managers and Administrators Plus was a great project which connected the best of the best between project managers in Visegrad 4 and Western Balkans countries.

This, still not sufficiently recognized profession, is a key for success of the research and educational institutions, larger or smaller ones alike. We are thankful to the organizers, HÉTFA Group, for allowing us to participate as the startup company developed through the EIT HEI Initiative funded project.

Our young, yet already skillful research support staff who attended this fruitful exchange venue, had so much to learn from her peers and it was an honor for us to be recognized as the stakeholders of this game-changing project consortium.
