The “Art through the Prism of Science” classroom of the NanoPoli Center is beginning its new, 5th working season, nurturing the creativity, knowledge, and imagination of its returning and new participants. The instructor, prominent artist Tatjana Ratković, looks forward to seeing you at the first class on September 5.

We warmly greet our “old” young members who will be joining us again and are opening the registration period for new members throughout the entire month of September, with the option of a trial class.

Official start: Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 13:30 to 15:30, featuring a get-together and scheduling discussions.

Participant age: 6–13 years

Group sizes: maximum of up to 10 members by age groups

Membership fee: 70 BAM for 4 sessions of 2 classes per month (all supplies included)

Location: Classroom No. 7 at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, through the Agreement on Cooperation.

Many types of materials can be processed multiple times and reintroduced into the raw material supply chain, benefiting the environment and reducing waste accumulation.

Our team will focus on this topic over the next six months by developing a pool of ideas for collaboration between the City of Trebinje and the Municipality of Tricase (Italy) through the CIRCUS Interreg Adrion project. We are grateful for this initial opportunity to share our expertise in the field. The exchange held in Dubrovnik facilitated networking with dedicated experts from across the Mediterranean and led to the creation of preliminary ideas that we will continue to develop.

Combining science with art through the STEAM field for children is a scientifically proven “gymnastics” supporting in the best way possible in the analytical hemisphere “talking” to the creative half of the brain. This semester of our school “Science through Art” was closed with a rich exhibition that brought together students, their families and friends in a warm atmosphere. We are especially proud of Filip, who, under the mentorship of Professor Tatjana Ratković, won a prestigious international award at the memorial competition. His graphic work on the theme “Book” participated in the 54^th international call for the Lidice Children’s Art Exhibition. He was selected as one of 5% of the commended participants in the competition of 12,392 artworks from 70 countries from around the world. Sincere congratulations to our professor Tatjana and the young artist Filip, who loves art and science equally.

The European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT) has finally opened its representative office in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This role has been entrusted to the FabLab association from Sarajevo, which has been dedicated and very successful in promoting and supporting domestic talents in science and technology in recent years. We are honored to be invited to present ourselves as a success story: NanoPoli Center, a startup created on the basis of a project supported by EIT and coordinated by the Faculty of Science and Mathematics of the University of Banja Luka, our partner through the Agreement on Scientific and Technical Cooperation.

At the presentation, we first of all emphasized that our partner Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (PMF) is the most successful institution in this fund with 8 implemented projects from this program. PMF‘s EIT projects have resulted in two national patents in the field of nanotechnology, the first coordinating EIT project from Bosnia and Herzegovina, 12 internationally peer-reviewed papers and opening of the startup NanoPoli Center, as an educational and research company. Also, through this Faculty’s EIT projects, over the past 8 years, 5 excellent students have gained their first months and several of them even years of work experience as research assistants, after which they have been employed in domestic institutions and some have continued their doctoral studies.

The hosts, FabLab, together with EIT representatives from several European Union countries, have enabled the first successful networking of colleagues from all over the country who are engaged in science, technology and capacity building in this field at this festive event. A sincere recommendation to the scientific and professional community to apply for EIT support programs and contribute to the development of the country and its internationalization. Yes, and congratulations to FabLab from the NanoPoli Center ♪♪.

Science and Technology Park of Montenegro hosted a group of experts from the wider Danube region for a discussion on the strategy for the implementation of Missions 1 and 4 of the European Union. NanoPoly Center had its representative at this event and we had the opportunity to talk about our vision for a more climate-neutral Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Podgorica proved to be a good host, showcasing the incredible Gorica – a reclaimed natural paradise away from the hustle and bustle of the city, full of rare species of plants and birds.

Meeting

Our young members proudly presented their works from the school “Art through the prism of science” at the traditional exhibition. Professor Tatjana was the star of the evening and the exhibition was attended by their families and friends. The NanoPoli Center would like to thank the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. This activity of our Center operates in the space of the Faculty, through the Cooperation Agreement, so that science topics can be permeated through the art works.

We are also pleased to open a NEW CALL for the spring season, in order to form different age groups.

After the highly successful implementation of the preparatory school in the previous year, the NanoPoli Center is once again opening a call for preparatory courses in chemistry for university entrance exams. We can proudly say that all of our participants from previous editions have enrolled in their targeted faculties. The experience from the previous cycle has enabled us to further improve the program and adapt it to the particular requirements of entrance exams in our country and the region.

This year, classes will also take place in smaller, dynamic groups, which has proven to be an effective way of learning and understanding the curriculum. Students will be assigned to groups in accordance with the targeted faculty, with clearly defined literature and an interactive approach that encourages understanding and problem solving.

The team of instructors this time again consists of NanoPoli Center associates, who hold BSc in chemistry and are close in age to students and have experience working both in academia and in education. During their studies, they achieved high academic results, participated in scientific and international projects in the field of innovative chemistry.

The scientific and research community in Bosnia and Herzegovina is small, but it is connected and intertwined with common desires for progress. We were honored to be part of the conference entitled “Strategy for the Use of Research Resources in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina for Development”. The conference was held on 16.12. in Mostar, in the INTERA Technology Park and under the auspices of the Federal Ministry of Education and Science.

We were panelists and emphasized the importance of uniting research capacities in our country, regardless of which university, educational or scientific institution it is, and also regardless of whether it is an institution from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina or the Republika Srpska. In such a small country, it is irrational to purchase expensive analytical instruments in multiple locations, while all scientists have the same goals. These are: improving education and strengthening the domestic industrial base, while preserving the environment by applying the best standards.

The focus of the conference was the ubiquitous artificial intelligence. The NanoPoly Center, as always, emphasized that it is important to keep up with these advanced capabilities, but to promote the ethical use of data as early as possible (even to very young students). We shared with our colleagues through the panel our commitment to taking care of the continuity of healthy “classical” thinking as a way to preserve the cognitive abilities of young people.

We had the honor of participating in the “M100” convention organized by our colleagues from the city of Bucharest at Ion Mincu University. They presented to us their way of participating in the European Union’s Climate Mission 4, which promotes “smart cities” through adaptations to reduce the impact on climate change. Romania has gone a step further in this important activity. In addition to receiving EU support for 3 cities, the state itself has decided to finance changes in 10 more cities.

They hosted numerous colleagues from all over Europe, and we learned a lot and listened with pride to the story of our fellow citizens from Sarajevo. Namely, the functional urban area of Sarajevo, which consists of the Canton of Sarajevo, the City of Sarajevo and the City of East Sarajevo, also signed their own climate agreement. The greatest success of this initiative is the recent renovation of the tram network and the purchase of 25 new trams and 25 new trolleybuses, which allows a large number of citizens to rely on public transport and thus reduce the impact of car exhaust on pollution and climate change itself. A “citizens’ assembly” was also established, which now has a voice on this topic and the opportunity to participate in changes.

These good practices should be replicated and make using public transport a “cool” option for young people as well, which is an absolute key to success.

The previous year was full of experiences and memories that solemnly ended with an exhibition on August 22nd organized by our teacher, prominent artist, Tatjana Ratković Bosnić. We share here a few pictures from this event, which took place in a wonderful atmosphere. We would also like to thank the Faculty of Science for their continued cooperation and mutual support.
